MUMBAI: BJP’s Ashish Shelar has once again raised the issue of sub-standard material being used in the construction of the coastal road. He wrote to Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, requesting the ministry seek an explanation from the BMC and ensure it complies with the ministry’s NOC terms and conditions.
Last month, Shelar had alleged a Rs1,000-crore scam in phase 1 of the project. Speaking to the press on Saturday, he alleged a Rs-1,600 crore corruption in the same stretch. “Over 8.4 lakh tonnes of material used for reclamation has been found to have been purchased illegally from at least six unapproved quarries. Also material of higher density amounting to 20 lakh tonnes has been used in violation of tender norms,” said Shelar.
The BJP MLA from Bandra West further alleged, “The consultants have turned a blind eye or even ignored, colluded in violation of tender norms.”
