TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The state-owned pawnshop company, PT Pegadaian (Persero), is combatting frauds under the guise of online auctions. The scammers have been pretending to be Pegadaian, incurring losses to their victims.
To curb the fraudulent practice, Pegadaian cooperates with the police, Facebook, and the Communication and Information Ministry to take down 3,208 fake links and illegal online auction platforms.
So far, 118 illegal websites, 2 marketplaces, 199 mobile apps, 2,779 social media accounts, and 110 links have been found and blocked
Pegadaian spokesman, Basuki Tri Andayani, said that the official auction of collaterals are only done in the company’s branch offices or during special events such as bazaars and exhibitions.
Unfortunately, there are people pretending to be employees of Pegadaian and Pegadaian Syariah, or staff of online auction halls. They often use fake employee cards to convince victims.
