Bridgend County Council has issued a warning about a worrying new scam targeting equipment suppliers.

Existing and potential suppliers to the council have been receiving an email or a phone call from scammers requesting a quotation for a specific item or items. The amounts so far, according to the council have ranged from “low to high values”.

The suppliers are there instructed to raise a purchase order and to deliver the goods to an address outside the area of Bridgend county.

After shipping the items, the supplier never receives payment and is unable to retrieve the shipped goods.

Bridgend County Borough Council has now released information letting suppliers know how to spot a fraudulent email and purchase order.
