A real estate company plans to tackle the issue of affordable homes in Gaston County one home at a time.

“We are always looking for land to purchase and build on,” said Grace Tillett, project manager of Charlotte-based Better Path Homes. “The company owners have been in real estate for almost 12 years and they noticed a serious need for affordable homes in the last two years. There’s a lot of demand and not enough affordable homes but we want to change that.”

Better Path Homes buys, renovates and resells homes but over the last two years, the company has started purchasing plots of vacant land and building homes.

“Sellers reach out to us about selling their lots and we will look into the property to see if the land is worth using,” said Tillett. “We were just in Charlotte helping serve dinners to the homeless with the Charlotte Rescue Mission because we like to get involved in anything in the community where we can help…
