BUFFALO – Child tax credits, through the American Rescue Plan Act, will soon hit people’s bank accounts.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced it is sending payments to qualified recipients via direct deposit, paper check, or debit cards. The payments are scheduled to start on July 15th.

These payments are an advance on the child tax credit, which means eligible people will get up to half of their child tax credit in these monthly payments and the other half when they file their 2021 taxes.

The Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission warn everyone to be on the lookout for scams.
